Candy canes are delicious! And so is chocolate! Why not mix these two great items together and make your own 3 ingredient, 10 minute candy cane bark?
Only 3 ingredients are needed:
- candy canes
- a large dark chocolate bar (we used a 150gr size)
- peppermint extract (this is optional)
Put the candy canes (we used 4 medium-sized) in a zipper sandwich bag and let the kids have fun breaking them up. You might want to double-bag in case they get over-enthusiastic and one bag tears (yes, we’re speaking from experience here!).
Don’t let the candy canes all turn to dust. You want a nice mix of flakes and some ‘larger’ pieces as well.
Break up the chocolate bar and place it in a microwave-safe bowl or cup. Heat it up until almost all the chocolate has melted. Stir the last bits to melt them down. Add some peppermint extract if you’d like. We added about 1/8 tsp for ours.
Add about half of the crushed candy canes to the chocolate and stir them in.
Pour the mixture onto a cookie sheet covered with wax paper/grease-proof paper and spread it out.
Sprinkle the remaining candy canes over the top of the melted chocolate.
Place your bark into the freezer to set. When it’s ready take it out and break it into random pieces. Enjoy it yourself or use it as a gift for your neighbours, teachers, or friends. I put it in festive cupcake cases that fit nicely inside a seasonal cupcake box (affiliate link).
Candy cane bark doesn’t only have to be before Christmas! It’s the perfect way to use up some of the many candy canes you still have left when you take down your Christmas tree. In fact, this is how our first batch came about. Now I’m hooked on ‘bark’ and am thinking of all the possibilities!

This is so delicious and so easy to make. I often forget about this treat during the holidays. I like it after the new year as a great way to get rid of all those canes. Yummy.

It’s perfect for that! It’s so easy to make…and to eat, too…

I love this stuff. It really is one of my favorite parts about the holidays! I remember when my high school friend made me some for Christmas and I’ve been hooked since.

It always seems to disappear so quickly…I can’t figure out why…;-)

That looks great! I love the idea of using the cupcake box for small gifts. I am just on my way out shopping and will have to look for that.
I’m a sucker for anything with chocolate and mint. Looks like your kids had so much fun!!

Chocolate and mint is my favourite pairing, too.
This is great for any last-minute gift-giving you may have to do.
The kids had fun – but I’m thinking it could be therapeutic for us Moms on a bad day, too.
