Canada Activities Pack For K-1

Canada Activities Pack Grade K-1 by Wise Owl Factory for Castle View Academy homeschool

I’m excited to have Carolyn Wilhelm, of the Wise Owl Factory on the site today (don’t miss her previous post with an editable French Calendar)!  She’s has generously created a spectacular Canada Activities Pack for Grades K-1, just in time for Canada Day (and beyond) for you!  I’m touched that she included some information relating to cities where we have family residing. My children thrived on her large library of free printables when they were in the younger grades; be sure to fly over and spend some time on her site, which is jam-packed with printable lessons and activities!

Canada Activities Pack Grade K-1 by Wise Owl Factory for Castle View Academy

Today we are “traveling” to Canada with some fun activities for kindergarten through grade one. We hope they will be useful in centers, small groups, or even large group work when you learn about Canada. This activities pack has 16 pages; some of the pages are in color and others are in black and white to save printing costs. The instant download is at this link:  Canada Activities Pack.

Initial Souns Clip Cards in the Canada Pack for K-1

First, there are eight initial sounds clip cards for emergent readers practicing their letter sounds. They are all lower-case, as most of our reading during our entire lives are actually lower-case letters. Think about reading a book and how fewer capital letters are in the text than lower-case. Children may clip the correct letter with a clothespin, or they might mark them with available buttons or counters. By engaging children with the topic of studying about Canada, the letters will take on more meaning to help them remember the sounds.

Canada Day d-1 Pack Manuscript Practice

The work page for manuscript printing practice is in both black and white for printing options. The black and white page may be used as consumable class material for the writing center or morning work. It is self-correcting to allow children to work independently.

The colour page may be printed and placed in a page protector or plastic sleeve for a reusable option. A dry marker may be provided and children can be instructed to wipe off their answers after use so it is ready for the next person at the writing center or station.

Which is Next Cut and Paste Canada Pack for k-1

Two “what is next” patterning pages are included for cut and paste practice for pattering. It could be an AB An ABAA or an ABC pattern. Logic may be applied as the pictures are unique to the pattern and a child might tell you he finished the page without looking at the patterns.

This also gives cutting and gluing practice fine motor practice. Just a dot of glue will do, and recycle the scraps, please.

Follow The Path K-1 Canada Activity Pack

Following the path for the letter C is in color, and again, may be placed in a plastic sleeve protector for reuse. This page is perfect for providing differentiation for children still learning their letters.

Many parents begin by teaching capital letters so a child could apply that knowledge to this page. In fact, it could be wiped off and repeated for students who enjoy the page.

Canada Word Cards

Animal word cards may be used in the science center if you happen to have plastic figurines on hand.

Or a page may be duplicated twice so that there are two of each card for children to play a game of memory.

The cards may be used in the writing center, as well.

Canada Pack K-1 Cut and Paste Work Page

There are three cut and paste sentence activity pages in this pack for Regina, Toronto, and Montreal. Each has three words to cut out and glue in the correct sentences. These pages will provide some differentiation for students who are more independent readers at this point in the school year.

We hope you will enjoy this Canada Activities Pack and find it helpful as the children study Canada.  If you haven’t already, you can download it here.

Thank you for reading,
