To follow on from our Hickory Dickory Clock nursery rhymes; earlier on in the month we participated in the “Chatterbox Challenge” for the charity I CAN. It promotes language skills for those children who are having a tough time with communication. “In theUK, one child in ten will struggle with a communication difficulty that will persist throughout their lives. In some areas as many as 50% of children start school with language skills below what they should be for their age”.
I know my two children become very frustrated and upset when they can understand a lot but do not yet always have the verbal skills to get across what they need. It must be very hard going through the younger years or beyond not having people understand what you would like to say. I came across this challenge while browsing ceefax one day and ordered up the kit. We did it in our front room and had a load of fun!
We sang Row, Row, Row Your Boat
Twinkle Twinkle little star
Head and shoulders
10 Little Snowmen
Daddy kindly took these photos of us. Due to Child Protection we did not take any of the children I mind, but they also participated in the Challenge.
When we completed the action songs each child also received a certificate for their participation and support. They thought that was also great fun!
