There are so many beautiful colours during autumn. Let’s bring them into the house and create a family tree. It’s art from the heart and a great memory of family times together.
When my parents were visiting from Canada earlier this year, I wanted to create something that everyone could participate in and that would last. My children love arts and crafts, and so do my parents. I had a little think and thought this could be a fun project to do.
Our family tree project was super frugal, the canvas was only £1 and we already had the acrylic paint, so we were ready to go.
Mom and I used sponges to dab a little blue paint mixed with water to make the sky (it’s not showing up so well in the photos).
Kallista painted the trunk of the tree, and then Tristan painted the branches.
Now it was time for everyone to add the leaves to the tree. Each family member used a different paint colour. Leaves were added to the tree as well as falling and on the ground. A little grass was added with fingerprints as well.
Tristan and Kallista are making sad faces in this photo, not because they didn’t like the project, but to show their displeasure of their grandparents’ departure in a couple of days. The month flew by!

We made two family trees, one for us to keep, and another for my parents to take home with them and have my sister and her family add their fingerprints to it…in fact…something tells me that could be in the works very soon as they live across the country from each other.
You know we love fingerprint art, and this fits right in, as well as being a fun fall project. Have you tried family art together? What did you do?
