Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! This past year has simply flown by in a flash…it hardly seems like winter yet with 12C weather; I’ve even spent about 10 hours the past two weeks catching up on some much-needed garden work. In fact, I was trimming bushes and pulling weeds when our delivery driver pulled up and dropped off our December Degustabox! On manual-labour days like that, it’s a pleasure to take a break and peek inside to see what a box reveals. And in this month’s box, there was a lot to choose from and enjoy while taking a break from the chores and relaxing with Phil and the children over Christmas break.
Let’s start with the contents of the December Degustabox before moving on to our top picks. Each monthly box contains between 10-15 products; some aren’t yet available in the shops which gives you the first chance to try them out! The short version of this month’s box is that there are 13 items; 5 beverages, 3 snacks, and 5 meal items. The long version is….

Please keep in mind that as a reviewer, I may receive more items to share with you in cases such as alcoholic/nonalcoholic boxes and flavour varieties, which means that this month we also tried out ketchup that would be in the non-alcoholic version of the box.
December Degustabox Top Picks
Each month we feature our top picks in the box. Of course, these choices are based on our own tastes, and I’d love to hear what your favourites are, just pop them down in the comments at the end of this post.
I think that both Phil and I will agree that the Funkin Cocktails Passion Fruit Martini Shaker was fun and fabulous! I only wish I had my martini glasses from back home in Canada to serve these in, but our thermal glasses did the trick nicely and kept our drinks nice and cold so we could take our time enjoying them. Phil added some vodka and ice and shook up the drinks and served them just in time for a movie. I love passion fruit flavoured drinks, and this was a refreshing adult drink enjoyed with my husband.

Also in the alcoholic beverages genre, is the Jack Daniel’s Lynchburg Lemonade. One of the things I miss from Canada is proper lemonade (although I do make my own here), and this drink had all the lemon flavour I love, with a little added kick, too. After another session of cleaning up the garden, coming in to a glass of Lynchburg Lemonade was a real treat, and it was finished all too fast.
A lovely compliment to the drinks above, are Green & Black’s Blueberry Velvet Fruit & Orange Velvet Fruit. They’re little squares of fruit smothered in rich, velvety dark chocolate. The blueberry is very nice, but I marginally prefer the orange for its zingy zestiness in the centre. These little gems will be rationed out and enjoyed from time to time when a break from life’s stresses is needed.
The Kids’ Top Picks
Poor Kallista came down with the flu over Christmas and took herself off to bed instead of sitting down to our Christmas dinner. As with all illnesses, it’s important to keep hydrated, so at the height of her fever, I pulled the Slush Puppie Sour Cherry out of the freezer for her. I tried a sip first to let her know what to expect. It was indeed sour, tart, and sweet all at once. She tried a little sip and shivered as it was colder than she was expecting. Then over the next hour she finished it; it was the only thing she consumed other than water for two days, which makes it her top pick this month. Happily, Kallista is now back to her happy and enthusiastic self again!
Kallista wanted an afternoon just for the two of us before Christmas so the gentlemen went out and we watched movies and made crafts. For our afternoon snack, we shared Nature’s Store Salted Caramel Popcorn Bar. Kallista and I were both pleasantly pleased. The popcorn is unique, and the salted caramel isn’t too salty, nor too sweet. It’s a bit chewy and crunchy, and was just right.
In this month’s box is one of three varieties of pasta, and we received Delverde Pasta’s Spaghetti. Saturday nights is when Phil and I enjoy an evening away from work and other concerns for our date night, and the children enjoy dinner on their own. One of their favourite things to eat on Saturdays is pasta with Phil’s homemade sauce. We have some left over that we’ll enjoy for lunch on Monday when Phil’s back to work and we’re catching up on laundry.
More Great Products
Nestlé Shredded Wheat Breakfast on the Go is a neat little item if you’re in a rush…you can even plan ahead and keep the milk in the fridge at work and the pot in your desk to have ready when you need it. This our mini Shredded Wheat pillows were enhanced with honey and nuts, which is quite nice, I must say.
Phil is more the noodle connoisseur than I (although if Dad were here, he’d top us all) so he tried out one of the Maggi Fusion Noodle Pots for lunch in the period between Christmas and New Year when we weren’t in the mood for turkey leftovers. There were three flavours included this month – Chow Mein, Spiced Curry, and Sweet Chilli. Phil tried the Spiced Curry flavour and enjoyed it. He’ll have the other flavours either at work for lunch or on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Kallista was the first to try Sleep Well Chocolate Milk, but she wasn’t a fan of the texture, for whatever reason. Tristan then tried it and quite liked it. He tells me it doesn’t have an effect on him so it’s good for any time of the day…perhaps I should have told him that in addition to honey, it also has valerian in it as he just thought it was chocolate milk.
There you have it! The full run-down of the November Degustabox – the ups and downs and in-betweens. Have you tried a Degustabox yet? Give it a whirl and see what delights are in the next box!
