If you’re looking for a quick and easy craft for kids, then this doily angel craft is perfect. My children made these a few years ago and hung them on the walls, as well as sending them through the post to special friends.

Although Christmas time is the main angel crafting season (see our other books and crafts with angels), these can, of course, be made at any time of the year.

How To Make A Doily Angel
These cute angels made from paper doilies are easy to make, even for young children.
The first step is to fold a doily in half and glue it onto the middle of a sheet of paper. My children chose blue printer paper to represent the blue sky. As an aside, I would suggest not using coloured glue sticks unless they are the type that turn white when dry…ours didn’t and it thus the glue showed through the final project.

Fold the two sides down as if they are wings, with the two wings meeting in a point at the top. Have a look at the angel on the dark sheet of paper below:

Open the doily back up and flip it upside down. Fold the top of the doily down to create ‘shoulders.’

Turn the doily back over and you’ll have a shape like the one below.
Glue this ‘body’ on top of the wings made earlier.

Use a small cup (or compass if your children are older or are supervised) to draw a circle on some white cardstock and cut it out. This will be the angel’s head.
Glue it on the angel’s shoulders and draw a smiling face on it.

The final step is to cut a piece of silver pipe cleaner and curve it into a circle and affix it to the angel’s head.

This part is optional as it doesn’t always work very well. My kids used a piece of tape for this, and as you see in the finished photos below, it is sometimes more successful than others.

These little doily angels have personality, just like the kids who make them! If you forgo the halo (or perhaps draw one on), then they are flat and can fit into an envelope to send to a loved one who could even envision the wings folded in a long-distance hug.
