Subscriptions are great gifts for kids; they are recurring, thus reminding the recipient of the love that someone has for them. There are subscriptions for just about everything, which is great! Some you can make a single purchase from, while others will go for a year or far into the future. We absolutely love subscriptions in our house! Each month the anticipation builds as curious minds wonder what will be arriving. Today I’m sharing some of our favourite gift subscriptions that your children, grandchildren, or young friends will be sure to love. All of them have been tried and tested by us.

MyFreezEasy
A subscription to My FreezEasy meal plans might seem a bit strange….but hear me out. What better way is there to make picky eaters excited about what they eat than to have them help with the meals. They can help plan out the meals, as well as prep them for the freezer and cook them before dinner.
My children love looking through the meal plans and choosing the recipes to make for the upcoming month. Then we check our cupboards and make our grocery list, adjusting things if necessary due to budget constraints (there’s a math lesson), and they know which meals are better for days that they have Ju-Jitsu and time is tight, and they have a couple of meals they love on Saturdays when they have their meal together ahead of Mom and Dad’s date night; tostados and mini lasagnes are perfect for that.
This is seriously a lesson in life skills every month! And for those kids that are more techy, there’s also a great new app (I’m not a big user of apps, but I find myself using this one on a regular basis when I’m making ‘fresh’ meals not for the freezer during the month).
You can read our full review here, and I have more updates in the pipeline.

One More Story
One More Story is an online children’s picture book library geared towards children from pre-kindergarten to grade four. Benjamin D. Bookworm, otherwise known as Bendy, is your librarian and will help you get acquainted with the process as well as the books. Children can choose any book they’d like from one of the four color-coded bookshelves. The bookshelves are not themed according to age or ability, thus not limiting the choices to any young reader. This encourages children to have a look around and choose the books they’re really interested in, not ones they think they should be reading.
Children can listen, read along with Bendy, or read on their own, depending on their abilities and moods. My daughter absolutely loved this subscription and definitely had her favourite books that she’d return to time and again between reading other titles. One thing that I loved was the inclusion of many multicultural stories from around the world. Our local library is lacking on this, so I was happy Kallista still had access to great reads.

Magazine Subscriptions
There are many fun and educational magazine subscriptions available for just about any interest. With one payment your child can receive a whole year of weekly or monthly magazines through the postbox, reminding them of you every time they arrive. We haven’t (yet) reviewed any magazine subscriptions to share with you, but my children have received them in the past from relatives and it was a favourite!
Do you know of any other subscriptions that are great for children? Share them in the comments below and we can all expand our knowledge and start our gift lists for this year.
