Today I had a lovely day alone with my two children as I wasn’t “working” (childminding) due to the school midterm break. We had a wonderful day together playing and reminiscing with my old toys that arrived in the post from Nana.

This afternoon we needed to liven things up a little as we didn’t go out for our walk as there was quite a heavy constant drizzle and we hadn’t had a home-day for a while.
We were singing some nursery rhymes and acting them out together. Tristan has always watched, but only very recently become interested in doing them himself, so with the three of us, it’s much more fun than me on my own amusing the neighbours through the windows!
We ended with “Hickory Dickory Dock, the Mouse Ran up the Clock”, singing all three verses (I didn’t realise there was more than one verse until a few weeks ago). Then it was snack time with a theme.
I thought it would be cute to make this mouse and clock for a bit of fun, and it didn’t take long, just using things from the cupboards.
I found a Digestive biscuit and wrote the numbers of the clock on the back side using an edible ink pen. The numbers can also be used for learning to count and number recognition.
I then sliced a little cheese for the arms (and mice like cheese as well-maybe that’s why the mouse was up the clock in the first place?). A small star sprinkle in the middle finished off the clock.
Then I thought it would be nice to have a mouse as well and rustled up two butterscotch chippets that were stuck together. I used some icing writers to make eyes, mouth and tail for the final touches.
As you can see, my children were surprised to see a nursery rhyme brought to life on the snack plate!
We have enjoyed making themed snacks with a camera, ants on a mossy log, and a spidey snack.
Do you make themed meals?

Thank you 🙂 I left that marker behind the last time we visited home, so I’ll have to order up another soon so we can do more creating!

What a cute snack! Have you read Keith Baker’s Hickory Dickory Dock? It’s so cute! Every hour there is a new animal at the clock and a new rhyming verse until midnight. My boys love it. I bet they’d love this snack to go with it. Welcome to the We teach group! And don’t forget to link up a post tomorrow (Tues) on the weekly blogger share!

Thank you Jackie. I haven’t heard of Keith Baker, but will look it up when I’m at the library. I have tried to give the blog share a go, I hope I have done it correctly. This is all new to me! Happy Pancake Day!
