Make your children (or hockey-crazed husband) an ice hockey bento box lunch for work or school and you’ll score extra points!
We’re really enjoying watching the 2014 Winter Olympics this year, and it’s so much fun now the children can understand what is going on. So while we were watching the Women’s Ice Hockey, and Haley Wickenheiser of my Canadian home province score a goal against the USA Phil was having an ice hockey bento lunch at his desk at work. Seems fair, doesn’t it?
To be honest this idea came to me earlier in the week while I was at a meeting. While everyone thought I was totally enthralled with the night and taking notes, on this occasion I was doodling sketches of what the kids and I were going to be working on this week. Shhh, don’t tell anyone!
I used my Japanese bento box as the arena, filled it with Nishiki sushi rice, used shaved carrots for goal posts, bell peppers for the center line and hockey sticks. A slice of chorizo makes great spots for a face-off and the centre part of a carrot is the puck. For the players, I brought out our Japanese bento picks. Voila! An ice hockey bento lunch is served.
Phil said his unique ice hockey bento box was admired and discussed around the office today, and even better, he enjoyed eating it! Score!!
