Do you use plastic milk cartons? Are you looking for a use for them? Are you looking for a great Easter craft? Why not combine these together and make a cute and practical milk bottle Easter bunny basket?
It’s a shame to let those milk cartons go to be recycled when they can be up-cycled!
Here is what we used to make our up-cycled
milk carton Easter Bunny basket:
- 2 litre plastic milk bottle
- craft foam
- pipe cleaners
- googly eyes
- pom poms
- glittery foam sticker (we used one petal of a flower)
- Easter basket grass
To start the Easter bunny basket, I drew around the front of the milk carton onto a piece of newspaper so that I knew how wide it was. I cut out this piece of newspaper and folded it in half lengthwise.
Then I cut the shape of the ears from it and rounded the area for the cheeks slightly so they wouldn’t appear so square.
When I was satisfied with my template I traced around the ears on the milk carton and used some scissors to cut the milk carton ears. I then cut around the other 3 sides of the carton, leaving enough room to make a nice basket where the body would be.
Next I again used the template to cut the face and ear shape from some white fun foam (of course, you may make your Easter bunny basket face any colour you chose). Then I used a little pink foam and cut out two long ovals for the inside of the bunny ears.
Now the hard part is over and the kids can have some fun putting the pieces together.
Use some glue to affix the foam face onto the milk carton. You may have to do a little tidy-up trim if some off the carton peeks around the foam. If you need to, use clothes pins to hold the face onto the milk bottle while the glue dries.
Then layer on the inside of the bunny ears.
Glue on a pom-pom nose.
Cut a pipe cleaner in half. Fold each piece in half and glue each one on either side of the pom-pom for whiskers.
Add you foam mouth or draw one on.
Add a little Easter grass to the basket in the back and you have a lovely, hand made milk carton Easter Bunny basket of your very own.
These would be perfect to make for/at children’s parties or for friends. Just add your little Easter gift of choice into the basket. This year I put some craft supplies into the eggs for another craft project we were giving to a friend. Pom poms in one egg, felt shapes in one, and sequins and gems in an egg. A healthy alternative for Easter, and something that will last longer than chocolate, too!
