I was enlivened by sharing our package sent From Belarus With Love with you so today I’ll share with you a little package we received in the post recently from Oaxaca, Mexico with love. I’m feeling inspired and I’d like to get back into writing letters and getting to know new friends around the world.
The way that this package came to us was that I happened to see a competition on a blog I wasn’t familiar with until then Wandertooth. To be honest, it was actually first a review about an adult colouring book they’ve published that was created from photos they’d taken from around their travels. The day I happened across their blog and had a look around, I came across the competition.
I used to enter quite a few competitions a few years ago, and I didn’t do too badly, winning a set of postcards, a book, credit for a homeschooling online store, and such. Then life became busier and now I don’t often enter anymore. But on this day I thought – why not, and I was one of the lucky winners!
What was the prize? A cute hand-carved Alebrijes from Oaxaca in Mexico.
Katie and Geoff were very kind and included a couple of postcards in the package as well.
Unfortunately, by the time the bunny alebrijes had arrived through the post its poor little ears had broken off. However, this meant that it was easier for the children to see that this beautiful item was indeed hand-carved and painted with love.
I’ve never been to Mexico, but it’s a place that’s always interested me with the colour, food, landscape, and history. I’m not sure if I’ll ever make it there myself, but the dream lives on and I’ll be reminded of it each time the children open their continent box and this little bunny hops out.

fun to read, and a nice lesson for the children about “real life”

What a fun story! I love receiving things from other countries and having a part of their culture.
