Scotch rolls is a simple recipe, and a good substitute for cinnamon buns when you don’t have the time, or if you have issues with yeast rising (like me – though I’ve been working on this).
Gather your Scotch Rolls ingredients:
-
1 C Butter
- 3 C Flour
- ½ C Sugar
- 1 Egg
- ¾ C Milk
- 2TBSP Baking powder
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- Brown sugar
And here’s how to make these scrumptious Scotch Roll Cinnamon bun want-to-bes
- Mix dry ingredients
- Beat egg, add milk and vanilla
- Add dry mixture. Handle quickly.
- Roll out on board ¼” thick or less.
Spread some brown sugar on top to make a nice, even covering and roll up like a Swiss roll
Cut into 2” (or smaller) slices
Bake the Scotch Rolls until golden brown
You can make these pretty much any size; large if you’re serving adults, or thinner, smaller ones for children or to serve to many.

Try adding a little cinnamon, mace, or or ground cloves onto the brown sugar for extra spice and variety!
