Subscription boxes have become a popular thing for kids. Purchase a subscription for a one-time box, or for up to a year, and every month/fortnight/week a package will arrive in your mailbox filled with wonderful surprises. These days you can find just about anything to be delivered straight to your door, and today I’m sharing 5 of our favourites with you that will help keep the kids busy, learning, and having fun this summer.
Have you tried a subscription box in the past? What did you think of it? We’ve tried a few, but these are our very top picks!
Letterbox Lab
The most recent subscription box we’ve reviewed is Letterbox Lab. We’re all loving this box! Think kitchen science ramped up a little. The boxes fit right through your letterbox flap and come equipped with everything the kids will need in order to undertake 3-5 experiments. There are also some supplies that you keep and use again with future boxes, thus over time creating your own scientific equipment store.
You can read our full review on the first boxes here (keep watching for future reviews, too)

Creation Crate
If your child is interested in electronics, this subscription box is a great way to get them started with fun projects. Everything you need is in the kit (with subsequent kits building on the components of the first). You child follows the diagrams and instructions to put the components together and add the coding into a program and at the end of the first kit they’ll have a colour-changing lamp!
We found this kit easy to follow, and not frustrating like purchasing kits on line that then don’t come with any instructions so you’re left to your own devices; which, for someone who isn’t knowledgeable renders them useless. Each kit is a surprise until you open it up to discover what the project will be!

Degustabox
We’ve been receiving Degustaboxes since last autumn, and we always love the suspense of opening them up to find out what’s inside. 9-15 items are in each box and many items haven’t yet hit the market so you’ll be the first to try them! Ranging from sweet snacks, popcorn, savoury cooking sauces, wine, mixers, fruit juices, coffee, and with the last box, a ‘fresh’ item (wraps in this case), there’s plenty of variety and something for the whole family to enjoy (even Tristan with a dairy allergy is happy with milk, non-dairy chocolate milk, etc). There are also gluten-free and sugar-free items in many of the boxes.
Okay, so these boxes aren’t necessarily just for the kids, but trying a new snack or recipe can be fun (each box also comes with 1-several recipes to try using some of the ingredients). But us parents also need to have some fun!
Degustaboxes also make great gifts for friends, neighbours, and even to take into the office!
