Last year the children made Leprachaun hat straws. Prior to making those, they made some Valentine’s Straw Decorations which didn’t make it onto the blog then, so I’m sharing them with you today.
These little straw cozies were a cinch to make, and the children really love to use them!
Have your children draw or trace a heart onto a piece of felt and then cut it out.
Cut two small slits in the felt where the straw will slide through. Be careful not to make these too big or else the felt will slide down the straw and into the drink. And no one wants fuzzy felt in a drink!
Use some glitter glue and make pretty designs on the heart. Glue on some sequins or other embellishments too, but be careful with these extras around younger children as you don’t want them to choke should one fall off and be swallowed with the drink.
When everything is done and dried, slide your Valentine’s Straw decoration on. If you have ‘bendy’ straws, it works well to bend the straw to help hold the decoration in place.
Now your drinks are pretty for Valentine’s Day, or any other special day. These would be a great match with some jam-jam cookies shaped like hearts. If you’re looking for more ideas, please have a look at our Valentine’s ideas board.
